Mizzis Horrocks’ Year Two class are about to perform their annual nativity… but with seven-year-olds, things rarely go to plan! Tempers flare over who got the best parts, forgotten lines lead to glorious improvisation, and the traditional Christmas story descends into delightful chaos.

As the play unfolds, the children are also transformed into their parents, giving a hilarious and surprisingly touching glimpse into family life beyond the classroom. Warm, witty and wonderfully recognisable, The Flint Street Nativity is a festive comedy full of heart that celebrates the excitement, anxieties and magic of Christmas through the eyes of children.

Casting

All performers play two roles: a 7 year old child in Miss Horrocks’ class and that child’s parent. Ages are flexible, as the humour comes from the actors’ ability to portray both seven-year-olds and adults rather than from their actual age.

Most roles are open to performers of any gender, provided the parental relationships remains believable. We are committed to inclusive casting and welcome performers of all backgrounds.

The roles of  Mary and Joseph will be cast as written. All other roles are gender-flexible.

We’re looking for actors with strong characterisation, comic timing and the confidence to switch seamlessly between childlike exuberance and recognisable adult personalities.
