Synopsis
If you’ve ever thought you might like to give acting a try but never quite been sure where to start or just want to practice your skills in between productions then why not come along to our Improv for Grown Ups session.
The sessions are suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced actors and will teach you how to tap into that “inner child” we all keep being told about, in a safe and nurturing environment.
Typically, we start with a bunch of silly warm up games to get us comfortable with each other and to get our brains firing and then we get in to some more advanced work. The theory (and practice) of storytelling, heightening, “yes and…” and so on until ultimately we’ll finish with some group improvisations building little scenes together.
If at any point you don’t feel you want to do a particular exercise then you can easily say so and step back for a moment until you get back into it. Personally there have been a couple of warm up exercises we’ve done which I really didn’t like and I would just step out to the edge and let everyone else get on with it. No judgement, no pressure from the group.
I think you will find it a lot of fun and a great way to start getting yourself comfortable with the prospect of being on stage in an actual production or maybe just come along to enjoy the camaraderie & frequent belly laughs that come with the territory!
Your first time is free but after that we would like for you to join DDOS as a member in order to continue taking the classes (it’s only £30 a year and there’s a host of other benefits).
