Synopsis

Two men, and a banging door that neither will close. As the door bangs, we hear accusation and excuse, and the story of a dead hero. Who is responsible?

The Door is a pungent comment on recent and current wars, and our own passivity in the face of failure. It’s also a fascinating journey of 2 men – a leader and a follower from widely divergent backgrounds – searching for a common understanding.

Featuring Damn Cheek’s Founding Artist Jonny Vaughton alongside Artistic Director Darren Cheek – under Rob Swinton’s direction, The Door is a taut, tense exploration of the relationship between these men, as well as our justifications for action and inaction.

First written and produced fifteen years ago, by Tony Earnshaw, Damn Cheek revived, reworked and toured this production between 2015 and 2020. Still one of Damn Cheek’s most successful shows to date, The Door has won over audiences and critics alike at festivals, and in towns and cities including (amongst many others) Edinburgh, Buxton, Guildford, Dunoon, London and New York.

The Door kickstarted Tony Earnshaw’s career as a playwright, was a catalyst in the formation of Damn Cheek Productions, and fifteen years after it was first written, and ten years after Damn Cheek first performed this version – this powerful play still retains its poignant and apposite topicality.

The Door hasn’t been seen in Dorking for over ten years, so don’t miss this opportunity to see what all the fuss is about!
